She holds a Diploma in General Dental Practice from the Royal College of Surgeons, UK; and received the Graduate Diploma in Dental Implantology (Singapore). She is one of the early adopters in Singapore of the CAD-CAM technology of Invisalign, receiving her certification in 2006

She set up Smile Makers to change people’s attitude to dental care and educate them on the wonderful ways that modern dentistry can improve their lives. Her strong belief in health education led her to be President of the Singapore Dental Health Foundation – an organisation dedicated to public education and health promotion. She led this organization for 13 years.

She continues to actively contribute to the dental profession in Singapore. Apart from currently serving as President of the Aesthetic Dentistry Society of Singapore, she also Chairs a committee in the Singapore Dental Association, and is a member of  the College of General Dental Surgeons and the NUS Graduate Dental Implantology Alumni. Indeed her many contributions earned her a place in the Singapore Dental Association’s Roll of Honour.

An experienced public speaker, Dr. Asha is known for her entertaining and authoritative style. She has delivered health education talks to community and corporate organisations.

When asked what she found most satisfying about her work, Dr. Asha replied, “The smiles my patients give me.” No wonder this “Smile Maker” has decorated her clinic and this website with the smiles of her patients.

She has 40 years of experience working as a dentist in the public & private sectors, and teaching both dental undergraduates and oral health therapists. She helped with starting up and overseeing the course for oral health therapists.

Her passion is the provision of holistic and practical dentistry for all. She believes strongly in dental health education and making patients fully aware of their oral condition. This helps patients not only to make the right decision about their treatment but also provides the knowledge and ability to keep their oral health in sound condition.

Besides teaching students and managing patients, Dr Hema is also involved in committees like the Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry workgroup and Oral Health Therapists Accreditation Committee of the Singapore Dental Council.

She is choosing to work part-time in Smile Makers Dental Clinic because she feels that the philosophy of optimum, relevant care practised by the members of this clinic matches her own values of providing comprehensive care customised to the patient.

Due to her teaching commitments, Dr. Hema is only available on Saturdays, strictly by appointment.
